We flew into Phnom Penh mid afternoon, and headed to the Sofitel, our home for the first two days. We are here on a Luxury Escapes package. After a shower and afternoon tea, the afternoon downpour arrived, and we settled for an early night.
The next morning started with breakfast, with an amazing variety of options. Chicken curry and rice, fried noodles with meat and veg, chinese soup and pickled fish were amongst the standard eggs, cereal, fruit, pastries. There was even creme caramel, berliner buns and icecream. I am sure the novelty will wear off after a week of overindulgence.
We attended a cooking demonstration, banana flower salad, curried chicken and pumpkin custard. We then ate the food for lunch, the savoury food was delicious, the custard very different.
We did leave the hotel, to buy a data sim in the morning, for a walk in the afternoon. It is hot and humid, and very like Vietnam, though not as much traffic. Quite decent buildings in amongst slums, footpaths used as motorbike parks, be very careful where walking. Looks like fun. Came home in a tuktuk.
